Healthy Choices School Grant

January 14, 2005

Dear School Representative:

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts (BCBSMA) is proud to announce its Healthy Choices grant application for the 2005–2006 school year. Healthy Choices is a public middle school-based nutrition and physical activity grant program that awards schools $9000 over three years. The program is funded by BCBSMA and administered by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (MDPH). Since 1999, one hundred (100) schools have benefited from the Healthy Choices program.

For the 2005-2006 school year, BCBSMA plans to fund fifty (50) public middle schools with first time Healthy Choices grants.

We’ve enclosed application materials, and encourage you and other school representatives (health educators, school nurses, school food service directors, etc.) to attend a Healthy Choices information session to learn more about the program. Representatives from BCBSMA and MDPH will be available to answer your questions about the program and the application process.

The information session will be held on Thursday, March 3, 2005 at the Best Western Royal Plaza Hotel (508-460-0700), located at 181 Boston Post Road, Marlborough, Massachusetts from 2:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. See enclosed for more information.

If you have questions regarding the Healthy Choices grant program or would like to register for the training session please contact Vanessa Cavallaro at 617-246-2520, or via email at vanessa.cavallaro@bcbsma.com.
In the meantime, we hope you’ll take a moment to review the enclosed materials, and learn more about how the Healthy Choices program can have a positive impact on the health and wellness of your students.

Sincerely,

Sylvia Stevens-Edouard
